Having just redone my home network and added a new 8×8 VoIP setup I decided I would actually put m0n0wall’s traffic shaper to use.
As always the first thing I do is search the m0n0wall mailing list to see if anyone else has done this and shared thier rule sets. No luck there but I did run across this document:
RE: [m0n0wall] Help/Documentation with Traffic Shaper
Now I have used FreeBSD’s DUMMYNET settings alot on servers and such but never for VoIP prioritization, so this should be interesting to say the least. The document above does shed alot of light on queues and pipes tho..it should help.
I will share what I find works once I have the testing done.
hehe Stroker & Hoops Sack Flashers episode was on again last night, I was rolling for the whole 1/2 hr…too damm funny. Not to mention the last “American Dad” episode…hehe “you’ll go blind!” They are really getting braver in thier story lines lately.
hehe its a “Sack Attack!”…..damm funny I tell you!
Well got the window replaced in the car today, quick and easy, not to mention the guys was quite cool. So now that the window is in, I decided to install the alarm tonight. Wasnt really a big deal, car electronics are quite simple once you know the codes. Speaking of codes most wire diagrams are horrible, time for the handy volt/amp meter…way fun!
So the alarm is in and working great all triggers and motion sensors are up and running perfectly, now I will know if the fuckers try again (as they most likely will).
Here is a desktop shot from the workstation at home.
Here is something I always wanted to do, create an archive of my different desktops that I use. So every once in awhile I will post what my current desktop looks like at that given time, since my desktops change quite frequently I may do this quite often. Here is the first set. Both from my workstation here at the office. (some information will be blurred to protect the innocent: i.e. ME)

On the heals of one of yesterdays post about annoying kids, here is a true story of what I saw last night.
OK Last night Steph and I ventured into our friendly neighborhood WalMart, it was around 8:30pm or so (not our prefered time to visit WalMart, 2am is alot better) and we picked up the items we came in for and then proceeded to kind of browse around for a few.
We were standing in the pitiful video game isle (they do have lots of cheap $9 games tho) when these 3 “bodies” strolled into the isle. 3 guys, one was obviously the Dad, he was gray, and rather skinny, then what looked like an older son, same build tall, skinny..etc the 2 were browsing console controllers at the end of the isle. THEN around the corner comes a little short fat porker, holding an armful of junk food, that he must have garnered from 2 isles over. The kid rounded the corner with a scowl look on his face and his mouth opened. This is almost exactly what he said when he rounded the corner:
“Geez dad come on you guys are so annoying…your taking forever…who cares about Bills birthday present…just pick something already…”
(he then proceeded to push stuff over on one of the isle racks and sat down on the bottom shell, which creaked under the weight, he began to look down lovingly at his gathered booty from a few isle over and started in again..)
“Why do you guys have to take so long..this is stupid… want to go home…I want to watch a movie…I want to go home..you guys suck…”
(then in astoundment the following words came out of his gullet)
“Dad come on you MORON..I want to go home..you guys are annoying about this”
(All of this was done in a voice loud enough to hear at the end of thie isle, meanwhile the “Dad” sat there is an apparent tuned out state, he did not even flintch at this sentence)
Meanwhile here I am with this dumbfounded look on my face getting ready to take a step over to the porker and knock his ho-ho’s out of his hands when Steph caught me and said lets go, in a kind of pushy fashion (she is so good to me, always keeping me out of trouble). So we round to the next isle over and I said in a not so low voice (hint: raised voice): “I would never let my kid call me a moron, I ought to go over and beat that kid upside the head for him”. About 40 seconds later we round the corder again and they are gone…hopefully the dad ran after I said that cause I honestly dont know if Steph could have stopped me if I saw him again.
Needless to say I was foul the rest of the night (which happens alot when I go to WalMart before midnight). Moral of the story…BEAT YOUR KIDS ONCE IN AWHILE!
Finally Gallery has been converted to SQL and not that crappy session file database, get your copy of Gallery at http://gallery.menalto.com.
So needless to say I have installed the new Gallery code and I am importing all of my pictures from the old website right now, it will take awhile has I had near a gig of pictures, so expect my photo gallery to be back up in a few days.
Man I feel old, particularly since my car got broke into I have been pondering the attitude of kids these days. I remember when I was younger I was a die hard skateboarder, everyday…everynight I was skating somewhere. We caused all kinds of trouble, which at the time seemed like nothing to us, we would laugh and take it as it came. Now I was outside yesterday watching these kids on thier skateboards and bikes riding some some curbs right in front of my house. First thing that came to mind was “Damm kids need to find somewhere else to go” but in the back of my mind I heard a scream.. “Grab your board and show them how its done” (yes I still have my last skateboard I ever bought I was 21 when I got it). So it got me wondering, was I really that annoying when I was a kid?
Let me think on that one…
Well thanks to Steph I have been finding myself staying up way to late reading the damm Harry Potter books, she is like obsessed with them or something. I can admit the books are pretty good, but I just cant find myself getting that wrapped up into them. Now I have to look forward to waiting in a long ass line for the premier of Goblet of Fire in November, should be interesting, I will be sure to bring my Yu-Gi-Oh cards to bust out some duels or something with Steph. (My Exodia deck is kicking right now)
We went and saw Tim Burtons new movie “The Corpse Bride” it wasnt bad, I would see it again, it just doesnt compare to Nightmare Before Christmas. Although this new one does have some good characters.
AND did you see that episode of Stroker & Hoop on AdultSwim Sunday night..that was hilarious…hehe Sack Flashers…too damm funny: http://www.sackflashers.com
Man work has been busy lately, the damm wifi connection here is keeping me on my toes. I guess thats what I get for spanning 2 miles with D-Link equipment, it works but does strange things. Got some Proxim stuff on the way to replace them tho.
Finally I was able to squeeze some budget for some new UPS’s, installing them this week in the datacenter. Fun times, cant beat working with high power electricity!
Oh and what a wonderful weekend I had too, woke up on Sunday to find that some punk ass kid decided it would be “really cool” to break into my car and “try” to steal the radio. BUT THEY FAILED! in the process they broke out one of my door windows and fucked up my dash board with a screw driver to try and get the radio out, fucking amateurs, little do they know I could have pulled that radio out with using any tools, but they jabbed it sideways with a screwdriver and jammed it into the dash and go it stuck. when all they had to do was PULL IT. Now I have to deal with my insurance company and all of that crap..what a pain.
So long story short I am putting an alam in the car and pulling out some dusty old 802.11b cameras I have and securing the outside parking lot, cause if they are that dumb not to get the radio, they are dumb enough to come back and try again. and if they do I will get them. Fucking dipshit crackheads!
But the weekend was not all fsck’ed, Full Metal Alchemist was on Saturday night, and as before the new episodes have not let me down yet. Excellent story writing…tune in AdultSwim on saturdays to find out what I mean. Cant wait to see the end…quite gripping so far!
Read this, it is very fitting to me at least!
Finally they bring it back, NEXT week!! WhooHoo damm AS for not telling us sooner.
